Poetry Out Loud
Advisor: Mrs. Christianson
The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have partnered with state arts agencies of the United States to support Poetry Out Loud, which encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.
The 2010-2011 UHS Poetry Out Loud Contest winners were Collin Teich, Dana Speer, and Nicole Berg.
Round Two Poems:
- Collin Teich: “The Tyger” by William Blake
-
Dana Speer: “Mourning Poems for the Queen of Sunday” by Robert Hayden
- Nicole Berg: “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost
These three students went on to compete against students from other schools.
