Established in 1988, the award, popularly known as the Triple "A" Award, recognizes and rewards high school seniors from across the state for their achievements with academics, in the arts and in athletics.

"The Triple "A" Award is one of the most coveted awards presented to students in Minnesota," said Jody Redman, associate director of the Minnesota State High School League. "Since its inception in 1988, more than 8,400 students have represented their school in the Triple "A" program."

In the past 10 years, there have been three other winners of the State Class A Triple "A" award from Underwood. No other school in the state can boast of such an honor. Previous winners were Jerry Aakre, Ben Aakre, and Carl Stenoien.
