MSUM Art

Underwood High School art students Tyler Herr, Alayna Evavold, Sophie Lindberg, Cole  Peterson, Leah Davidson and Chase Magnuson entered their artistic works in the 9th annual Art A-Fair at Minnesota State University Moorhead.  On January 5th, artworks were delivered to  MSUM.  Twenty-five schools participated in this show, which comprised of 200 total works.  Each school was only allowed to submit up to 8 artworks, each needing to be original to the student and created in the past year.  A panel of art faculty members awarded cash prizes for each of the 8 media categories.  All of the works were on display at the Roland Dille Center for the Arts Gallery for two weeks.

On January 27th students from the participating schools attended workshops and an awards ceremony at MSUM.  Although Underwood and 7 other schools were not able to attend due to the weather, it was a great event.

In total 40 awards were given, 9 of them being cash awards and 31 Honorable Mentions.  The Underwood recipients were Alayna Evavold with an Honorable Mention for her clay vase, Tyler Herr with 2 Honorable Mentions for his fruit sculpture and 2-D mixed media Moon.  Sophie Lindberg received Best in 2-D mixed media and $100 check for her work.  Chase Magnuson received Best in Media Art and $100 check for his Animation.

This is a great accomplishment for these Underwood art students.  Of the Minnesota schools who participated, Underwood was honored to receive the award for the “Best Minnesota School Exhibition” for the second consecutive year.
